At BMW World, we have been tracking BMW vehicles and the BMW experience this past year with our Picture of the Week and Vintage Picture of the Week features. So, at the end of the year 2003, we present our picks for the top ten BMW pictures in 2003.

Car Audio

Just as there is a lot of performance above 100 mph, there is a lot of sound below 100 Hz. In 2003 we showed how to get the best sights and sounds in your BMW from our car audio, stereo and mobile electronics pages.

Hank Aaron

In February 2003, BMW World celebrated Black History Month with a tribute to Hank Aaron. Today, he owns Hank Aaron BMW in Atlanta, Georgia, but to generations of baseball fans Hank is known as the home run king, and one of the greatest baseball players of all time.

Paris to Dakar Rally

Each year the world's bravest drivers come together to compete in the Paris-Dakar Rally, a grueling 7,000 mile trek across every imaginable terrain. BMW has won the event 6 times in the bike category. In 2003 BMW once again had competitors entered in the bike category, and the BMW X5 was driven by several teams in the car category.

Monster Mini

Discovery Channel's Monster Garage TV program turned a MINI Cooper into a snowmobile in one of the wackiest moments of 2003. In the end, Jesse James raced NASCAR legend Richard Petty in the Battle of the Snowmobiles!

Alpina BMW Z8 Roadster

Alpina has almost 40 years of experience improving BMW cars. Their latest effort is a remake of the Z8, with more torque, automatic transmission, and 20" wheels. Only 555 Alpina Z8 Roadsters will be made in the swan song for one of the most beautiful roadsters ever built.

BMW 320i and Alex Zanardi

Thanks in part to BMW, Alex Zanardi is behind the wheel of a racecar once again. On October 19, 2003, Zanardi competed for the BMW Italy-Spain team in a BMW 320i car at the FIA European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) race in Monza, Italy. Later we learned Alex Zanardi will compete in the 2004 season.

Adaptive Headlights

2003 was a banner year for BMW technology. Adaptive lights--already available for many BMW models including the BMW 7 Series, X5, Z4 and 3 Series Coupe and Cabriolet--will also be available on the new 5 Series.

The Italian Job

Michael Caine and the Mini starred in the original 'Italian Job' movie, made in the 60's. As we showed, the remake was even better, with an incredible car chase scene with no less than 3 MINI's.

Monaco GP

Juan Pablo Montoya achieved the first victory of the 2003 season for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team at the Monaco Grand Prix, but the best was yet to come. For BMW fought Ferrari to the wire, only to be bested by the greatest of them all ... Michael Schumacher, six time World Champion.

New BMW Models

Never before in the history of the company has BMW introduced so many new models at one time. The BMW 5 Series Sedan, the BMW 6 Series Coupé and Convertible, the BMW Z4 Roadster and the BMW X3 SAV were all in the spotlight in 2003. Oh, and don't forget the BMW M3 CSL!
