Based on the 3 Series
Compact, the Hamann
Motorsport 3.2 liter/350 hp may be the fastest compact car in the world.
The source of power is the engine from the M3. The M3 engine power has been increased to 350 hp / 257.6 kW with some modifications. The 3201 ccm engine is upgraded
with a special exhaust manifold and new mappings for the
electronic-control-units for Motronic and VANOS. Inside the engine compartment,
the new air-collector is made from Carbon/Kevlar. This new piece contributes to the higher power output of the engine due to its Formula
1 style airbox. There is a
specially tuned high performance exhaust system and many special parts to make
the engine fit into the front section of the compact.
Power transmission is done by a six-speed
manual gearbox taken from the new M3 and by a stronger rear axle differential
with 40 per cent locking rate. So the Hamann Motorsport HM 3.2/350 catapults from 0 - 100 km/h in
4.8 seconds with a top speed of 289 km/h.
This kind of
performance calls for far-reaching modifications on the aerodynamics which are
made with wide body conversion.
The new front skirt with additional spoiler-lip reduces the lift on
the front axle.
Downforce on the rear axle is achieved with the
big, adjustable rear wing with extendable Gurney-flap and the new rear-skirt
with diffusor. The bolt-on, sportily swinging fender flarings front and rear
make the Hamann Motorsport runabout 184 centimeters wide and give space to
extremely wide wheels.
To achieve maximum possible traction, the compact car is
equipped with three-piece Hamann Motorsport Pegasus light alloy rims of the
dimensions 12Jx18 and Yokohama tires in the format 285/35 ZR 18 on the rear
axle. For the transfer of the steering and braking forces onto the front
suspension there are nine inch wide wheels with 245/40 ZR 18 tires.
Between the openings there are integrated sportily styled side-skirts with
ventilation-intakes for the rear brakes. In addition, the Hamann Motorsport HM
3.2/350 is equipped with a Carbon-hood, sports-side-mirrors and an underbody
cover.
Hamann Motorsport furnishes the two-door car with a
height-adjustable sports suspension, which lowers the chassis by 40 millimeters.
The shock absorber tuning can be chosen
between sportily comfortably and race-like hard. The suspension package
additionally includes adjustable torsion bars, front strut brace and a high
performance brake system with 330 mm large, ventilated discs and multi-pistons
calipers. For the interior there are optionally available luxurious full leather
appointments or a racing-light- weight cockpit. The Hamann Motorsport HM 3.2/350
is hand-built on special request.
