BMW V-12 LMR
As if being one of the youngest cars on the track at just two months wasn't exciting enough, the BMW V-12 Le Mans Roadster qualified for pole position at the Sebring for its
debut race. And it was just getting warmed up.
The sportscar stunned the automotive press once again March 20, 1999, as it captured the checkered flag after 12 hours on the Sebring circuit in Florida, USA.
The BMW V-12 LMR proved its durability by enduring the Sebring's bumpy six-kilometer-long circuit. A true test for a new design featuring an open two-seater with single-piece carbon-fiber monocoque body, front and rear twin wishbone axles, and
carbon-fiber brakes. And a familiar test for an engine that's no stranger to long-distance racing. The BMW six-liter V-12 that propels the new LMR first won in 1995, powering the McLaren BMW to victory at the 24-hour Le Mans in
France.
