The BMW Formula 2 engine, designated M 12/7 was one of the most dominant power plants in any class of racing, winning numerous races and six Formula 2 Championships during the 1970s. Based on the
production cylinder block of BMW's four-cylinder engines, such as found in the 2002, this engine was engineered to produce 300 normally aspirated horsepower from just two liters of displacement. The BMW/March 792 carried Marc Surer to the 1979 European Formula 2 Championship. Marc began his racing career with BMW as one of three team drivers in the 320i Junior Team, and proved his worth by
winning the first race of the 1977 season in Zolder.
Marc went on to race in Formula 1 and today is the team manager for BMW's effort in the German STW Teamcup (Super Touring Car) Championship.
