At the
Goodwood Festival of Speed, auto
enthusiasts got a close-up look at racing
vehicles from every decade of motorsport.
Over 138,000 people
recently attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed
held annually on the Earl of March's estate in
Hampshire, England.
One of the
highlights of the event was the exhibition staged
in the grounds surrounding Goodwood House by BMW Mobile Tradition. A wide range of motorcycles and racing cars, including a BMW RS 500 and an
AC Schnitzer BMW 2002 Turbo Group 4, were on
display.
Another highlight
of the event was the visit by current
Formula One star Ralf Schumacher. Several hundred fans gathered around the racing driver for
a close-up look and some autographs.
"The Goodwood Festival of Speed combines motorsport and automotive history in an outstanding way. Year after year the Earl of March succeeds in really bringing classic motorsport alive for the spectators who come here. Lord March and the BMW Group share the same view of classic events: what Goodwood is about is mobile tradition in the true sense of the word."
Holger Lapp,
head of BMW Group Mobile Tradition
Marc Surer,
successful Formula 2 driver of the 1970s, took
the Grand Prix Single Seaters class trophy. He
placed fourth in the overall class with his
March BMW 792. BMW Group Mobile Tradition also
fielded the oldest motorcycle, the 1939 BMW R
51 RS raced by Sebastian Gutsch. |
