If there's
one job most of us will end up tackling on our Bimmers at least once,
it's replacing the BMW brake pads. A simple pad replacement is hard to
farm out to someone else--the parts are cheap, the work is easy, and it's
a job that will have to be done more often than most repair procedures.
That's especially true if you drive your BMW hard. Likewise, if you've
been wanting to try your hand at working on your own car, replacing the
BMW
Brake Pads is a great way to get your feet wet. If you manage to do
it right, it might even inspire you to move on to bigger challenges down
the road. Automatic transmission rebuild, anyone?
Your BMW
brake pads make up the friction surfaces that contact the spinning rotors,
bringing your car to a stop. As time wears on, your BMW brake pads wear
down until there's not much left but a metal backing plate and some rivets.
If you replace the BMW brake pads at that point, you can save yourself
some money. If you let them go much further, you may have to replace rotors
too, which gets a little more involved. But by all means, give a BMW brake
pad replacement a try. Also, if you dont like having that ugly brake dust
on your wheels, try a set of low dust Greenstuff
brake pads from EBC
Brakes. You might find there's been a little bit of German car mechanic
in you all along.
