X5 3.0 SAV
|
The new for 2002 BMW
X5 4.6is
features a specially tuned engine with an output of 340 horsepower
and 350 pound-feet of torque, peaking at a low 3,700 rpm.

The
displacement of the 4.4-liter V8 engine has increased by 0.2 liters
to a total of 4.6. The compression ratio is up from 10.0:1 to
10.5:1, and the redline has been increased from 6,200 to 7,000 rpm.
Along with a new exhaust system, these changes are good enough to go
from 0 to 60 mph in a blazing 6.2 seconds.
With the X5 3.0, BMW introduced a new powerplant, the M54. Developed
primarily for use in the X5 with higher torque and power requirements, the new engine also delivers better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

The new M54 6-cylinder engine is larger than the 6 used in the 328i, 528i and Z3 2.8. This was achieved by lengthening the stroke from 84 to 89.6 millimeters, increasing
piston displacement from 2793 to 2979 cc. Torque is up from 206 to 214 lb-ft. and horsepower from 193 to 225 hp.
