The first BMW Motorsport project will convert newly-introduced CS coupes into race cars. The project ultimately resulted in the famous CSL coupes known as the Batmobiles. M's trademark red, blue and purple stripe logo was first seen on the CSL.

The first Earth Day is celebrated, launching the environmental movement. Today's 750hL hydrogen powered car shows BMW's commitment to the environment.
