3200CS Coupe, with body by Bertone, and the
1500 were shown at the Frankfurt Motor
Show. The 1500 was the first of the New
Class models.

The
700 was BMW's first unitary construction car. The 700 used the twin-cylinder engine of the R67 motor
cycle.

In 1961, a
longer wheelbase Luxus model appeared.

Introduced in 1955, the BMW 600 was intended as an enlarged
Isetta three-wheeler with more power and a more
conventional four-wheel configuration.

The 600 had the 582 cc twin engine from the R67 motorcycle. Top speed was 64 mph.

Big and sturdy machines, the 500 series cars were
nicknamed Baroque Angels because their flowing lines reminded people of the carved wooden figures of the Baroque period.

Several new models based on the 500 Series were added in 1961:
All of these models had V-8 engines. With 160 hp, the 3.2 Super was the fastest German production car, with a top speed of 118 mph. Disc brakes were standard equipment
on all models.
