Introduced in December 1999 in the US,
the X5 is the newest member of the BMW family. It is designated a SAV, for
Sports Activity Vehicle, the ultimate vehicle for active lifestyles.
Designed to compete in the SUV (Sports Utility
Vehicle) market, the X5 is unmistakably a BMW. The X5
combines the responsive performance of a BMW with the roominess,
flexibility, and all-weather capability of an SUV.
The 4.4-liter DOHC (4-cam) 32-valve
V-8 engine produces 282 hp and 324 lbft of torque at 3600 rpm with 0 to 60
mph acceleration time of 7.5 seconds. For 2004, the 4.4-liter has been
expanded to a 4.8-liter with 360 hp!
