Techno Classica It is billed as the worlds greatest classic car show. Each year exhibitors from all over the world come to Essen, Germany, for the classic car show known as Techno Classica.

  The 2002 event had over 105,000 visitors and 770 exhibitors from 15 countries who displayed more than 2000 classic and exotic automobiles in eleven halls, making it the largest and most renowned fair in the world for vintage and classic cars, motorcycles, spare parts and restoration.

Held this year from April 10 - 13, BMW's main display was entitled "7 decades of BMW Cabrios".

The display was lavishly illustrated by ten, open-air BMW models in front of a backdrop of a picturesque Bavarian scene:

The BMW Cabrios on display included a small 3/15 HP, the elegant 327, a rare 335, the postwar 502 and 503 models, a 700 Cabrio and a BMW M3 Cabrio.

BMW also celebrated three anniversaries at the 2003 Techno Classica:

  • The 25th Birthday of the BMW M1 featured two cars; a red street model and a white M1 Procar.
  • 80 years of BMW motorcycles had a special motorcycle exhibition with an RS 500 Kompressor once piloted by 'Big John' Surtees
  • BMW's first world championship victory in Formula 1 was celebrated with the victorious Brabham BT 52 of 1993 alongside a current Formula 1 car.

Traditionally, BMW shows two especially rare pieces at the entrance to hall 12. This year BMW put on display a unique, 8 series Cabrio and a BMW 3200 Cabrio. Both models were special production items made exclusively for the Quandt family, not released to the public.

BMW 328 Mille Miglia The BMW 328 is a milestone in automobile history and was the most successful sports car of the 1930s. Following its competition debut at Nürburgring in June 1936, the BMW 328 demonstrated its prowess in international sportscar races in the two-liter class, including the famed Mille Miglia.

1930 BMW model's include the legendary 328, nominated for the Car of the Century.

  • An attractive chassis design for the BMW Dixi mini-car was presented in 1930 with the sporty, two-seat Wartburg.
  • A German version of the British Austin Seven, the 1931 DA/4 was the European counterpart of the famous Ford Model T.
  • The 1933 303 was BMW's first 6 cylinder model and the first to use the "kidney" style grille.
