It is billed as the worlds greatest classic car show. Each year exhibitors
from all over the world come to Essen, Germany, for the classic car show
known as Techno Classica. |

The 2002 event had over 105,000 visitors and 770 exhibitors from 15
countries who displayed more than 2000 classic and exotic automobiles in
eleven halls, making it the largest and most renowned fair in the world
for vintage and classic cars, motorcycles, spare parts and restoration. |

Held this year
from April 10 - 13, BMW's main display was entitled "7 decades of BMW
Cabrios".
The display was
lavishly illustrated by ten, open-air BMW models in front of a backdrop of a
picturesque Bavarian scene:

The BMW Cabrios
on display included a small 3/15 HP, the elegant 327, a rare 335, the
postwar 502 and 503 models, a 700 Cabrio and a BMW
M3 Cabrio.
BMW also
celebrated three anniversaries at the 2003 Techno Classica:

The 25th
Birthday of the BMW M1 featured two cars; a red street model and a white
M1 Procar.

80 years of BMW
motorcycles had a special motorcycle exhibition with an RS 500 Kompressor
once piloted by 'Big John' Surtees
-
BMW's first
world championship victory in Formula 1 was celebrated with the victorious Brabham BT 52 of 1993 alongside a current Formula 1 car.

Traditionally,
BMW shows two especially rare pieces at the entrance to hall 12. This year
BMW put on display a unique, 8 series Cabrio and a BMW 3200 Cabrio. Both
models were special production items made exclusively for the Quandt family,
not released to the public. |
