BMW started as a manufacturer of airplane engines. Then came
motorcycles, followed in 1929 by their first car,
the Dixi. The Dixi--model
DA/1--was a licensed version of the famous British Austin Seven,
designed by Sir Herbert Austin. Over the next 10 years, BMW evolved
the early automobile with advanced engineering,
stylish design
and clever marketing, culminating in the legendary
BMW 328. The Dixi Chick showed that a BMW was more
than transportation, for it was fun, easy to drive, and exciting,
like the BMW cars of today. |
