The tragic events of September 11 in the USA overshadowed the first BMW Classic Marathon. Here is what we missed:
On 17 September 2001, participants from 8 countries started out from Munich in the first BMW Classic Marathon. It was perhaps the most challenging competition of its
kind.
The journey--which started out in Germany and touched 10 other European countries--was also a journey in time. It was a history of technology on wheels, with 70-year-old
motorcycles, dozens of 503 and 507's, a few wonderful 328's and even an Isetta or two.
The event was so successful, the BMW Vintage Club of America wants to organize a Classic Marathon in the USA in 2004,
touching on all the states.
