Sturdy and expensive machines, the 500 series "Baroque Angel" cars were BMW's mainstay from 1951 up until 1964.

BMW 501

BMW 501

The 501 had an updated version of the pre-war 2.0 liter six-cylinder engine. In 1954, this was supplemented by a 2.6 liter V8 with 50% more horsepower.


BMW 502

Introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1954, the 502 featured a light-metal 2.6 liter V-8, the most modern of its day and Germany's first eight since the War.

BMW 503

Shown along with the 507 at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1955, the 503 had a 140 hp engine and 2+2 seating. Only 412 were made.
