Italy`s first woman in rock`n`roll, Gianna Nannini, has a reputation for her interest in developing new sound concepts. On her latest album, ARIA (Universal 2002), she took new musical roads, bringing some electronic sounds into her songwriting. With her 3-piece live band she brought her eclectic new song material as well as her massive hits to life during her successful tours in Italy and Europe in 2002. Her live shows feature a very impressive light shows, and of course, Gianna herself, meandering between boyish playfulness and rock grrrrrl riot.

Gianna Nannini is the undisputed Queen of Italian Rock. She was born in Siena, Italy in 1956. Her first record was released in 1976 and her very latest CD came out only a short time ago!

Gianna has developed her own very distinctive singing style which has changed considerably over the years from a quieter technique used in the early days (when she also played the Piano more), to the sheer raw power of her more recent recordings.

Gianna Nannini was born in Siena, Tuscany, on the 14 of june 1956.

She has two brothers, Guido ('51) and Alessandro ('61).

After visiting school, she studied piano at the "Luigi Boccherini" University in Lucca.

In 1975 she left Siena, to live in Milan. In Milan, she studied composing and philosophy at the University of Milan. In 1976 she published her first record "Gianna Nannini" (Dischi Recordi).

In the late seventies (1979) she went to the U.S.A. and after her homecoming in 1980 she published her Album "California".

1981 she composed the soundtrack for the film "Sconcerto Rock". A Movie produced by Bernardo Bertolucci.

On October 16th 1982 she gave her legendary concert at the "Rockpalast".

In November 1989 she recorded "Un' Estate Italiana" for the Football World Championship in 1990. Gianna Nannini gave her debut as an Actress in Gabriele Salavatores "Sogno di notte d'estate", in 1983. In December 1994 Gianna Nannini received the Dr. Phil. from Siena University.
