The 2000 New Class sedan had the 1990 cc engine subsequently used in the 2002. The engine produced 100 hp with a 89 x 80 bore and stroke. More specs...

In addition to the wide-band headlights, the 2000 was distinguished by its horizontal taillights. The three-speed automatic was only available with the single Solex 40 PDSI carburetor engine.

A twin-carburetor TI version was produced from 1966 to 1968. The 2000 TII was produced from 1969 to 1972, featuring BMW's first fuel-injected production model. From 1966 to 1970, the LUX option package was available.

Manufactured from 1966 to 1972, there were 120,495 2000 units built. The base model 2000 had a top speed of 104 mph/168 kph, while the 2000tii had a top speed of 115 mph/185 kph.
