| Almost half
a century ago, the husband-and-wife team Ottavio and Rosita Missoni
set up a small workshop to produce high quality knitwear of their
own design. At first their knitting machines could produce only
striped patterns, so the Missonis become known in Italy for their
particular way with striped knits of all varieties, sizes, textures
and colors.

Their
reputation grew as their sweaters and skirts became popular among
European customers searching for relaxed, yet elegant, attire.
Ottavio and Rosita have retired after over 50 years; now their
daughter, Angela, has taken over the business. |
| As a
designer of intricate patterns realized in exquisite knit fabrics,
Missoni has always been inspired by the possibilities of color. Used
as a means of self-expression, much in the way an artist develops
and refines his own personal palette, Missoni creates designs that
are actually textural pieces of wearable art. |

The
Missoni look is based on bright, colorful designs, mostly influenced
by folk art. For Life Ball 2003, Angela Missoni created a most
colorful design for the new MINI. |
