2001 Models:
The 2001 BMW 7-Series was available in five trims: 740i, 740iL, 750iL, 740iL Protection, and 750iL Protection. Standard safety equipment
included dual front and side airbags, optional rear side airbags, the Head Protection System, an anti-lock brake system (ABS), child safety locks, BMW's Dynamic Stability Control, and an impact sensor that automatically unlocks doors and
turns on interior lights and hazard flashers after a serious accident.
A 4.4-liter 282-horsepower V8 engine powered the 740 trims, while the top-level 750iL had a 5.4-liter 326-horsepower V12. Standard features included leather and walnut trim, power windows and door locks, a
power moonroof, an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD changer, xenon headlights, an onboard navigation system, and run-flat tires. The 740iL included the same equipment as the 740i, but with a longer wheelbase. The 750iL added Park Distance
Control, a voice recognition cellular telephone, heated front and rear seats, and multi-spoke alloy wheels. The Protection series featured bullet-resistant glass, light armor that protects against handguns, and a modified suspension with
Electronic Damping Control. Also standard on all 7-Series trims was the Mayday system providing an instant connection to either BMW Roadside assistance or emergency services.
