Here's
what you can do if you are a pilot and love BMW's:
First,
take the tail from your plane and put it on the roof of your car.
Then,
mount the hand carved wooden propeller on the front door.
The front door?
Yes, the front door, for this is no ordinary car, this car is a BMW
600, the "4 wheel version" of the BMW Isetta.
Crazy?
Well, Dave Major has done it, creating one hit of a car. Here are some
more of his modifications:
-
Remove
the front parking lights and the rear tail lights.
-
Replace
the tires with Beechjet 400A nose wheel tires.
-
Adapt
special split rims from an early Isetta to fit the airplane tires.
-
Create
a custom fiberglass dash to hold the flight instruments.
-
Add an
electric motor to turn the propeller.
Does
it fly? With a 20 hp motor and a top speed of 62 mph, the BMW 600 is not
quite flight ready. Besides, the wings are too short!
But
knowing Dave, he's probably working on it, in between auto shows.
