Information

The E90
3 Series
will be a little larger than the current 3-Series, built on a longer
version of the excellent 1 Series
platform, with design elements of current BMW
models.
Official BMW website can be found here...
The future
3-series will consist of only two models, with separate E numbers.
These models are the four-door Sedan (E90) and the five-door Touring
(E91). Expect to see the Sedan and the Touring at the 2005 Geneva
and Frankfurt auto shows respectively.
The Coupé (E92) and
the Cabrio (E93) may become the
first 4 Series models. The Coupé should be introduced at the 2006
Paris auto show while the Cabrio should be first seen at the 2007
Detroit auto show.
In the performance
department, the 330i motor goes from a standing start to 100 km/h in
6.3 seconds, while the 325i takes only 0.7 seconds longer. The 330i
motor has a top speed of 250 km/h. The 320d engine has 8.2 0 to 100
km/h times with a top speed of 225 km/h. Active Steering is an
option on the 325i and 330i models.

Engines
|
BMW will
offer the usual complement of straight-sixes and diesels in the new
E90 3 Series,
including the advanced technology 320d diesel and 330i petrol engines.
The 330i is
the all-new lightweight 3.0-litre Valvetronic petrol engine
featured in the BMW 630i 6 Series. In
BMW's ongoing pursuit of weight reduction, this engine is the first
in large-scale series production to use magnesium which, compared to
aluminum, is 30 percent lighter. Magnesium is used in the crankcase,
the crankshaft bearings and the cylinder head cover.
