Other starters already confirmed
are Sydney-Hobart yachting line honours winner Grant Wharington and
Melbourne businessman Danny Wallis, who paid $60,000 at a Mark Webber
Challenge charity auction for his drive in the race.
The full field of celebrities from
the sports, entertainment and business worlds will be announced during
February, with participants to undergo a week of intensive training at
Sandown Raceway under former Le Mans and US sports car and Bathurst
champion Geoff Brabham.
The training sessions will ensure
the celebrities develop the skills, knowledge and awareness of what it
takes to get behind the wheel of a "racing vehicle".

The 28 318ti Sport Compacts will
bring a new look to the Celebrity Challenge, which promises to be the best
in BMW's five-year history with the event at Melbourne's Grand Prix.
Over the previous four years the
Celebrity Challenge featured the very popular BMW Z3 Roadster and more
recently the exciting new MINI Cooper, which made its racing debut at
Albert Park.
The 318ti Sport Compact is powered
by a 2-litre, 16-valve, four-cylinder engine, capable of reaching 100kmh
in 9.3 seconds, with a top speed of 214kmh.
For the BMW Celebrity Challenge
the 28 Sport Compacts will be fitted with special racing equipment,
including competition brake pads, competition clutch, roll cage, race seat
and racing harness.
