BMW's V-8's are best known by the M5 and
Z8 models with V-8 power.
The
E39 M5 is the first M car powered by a V8
engine
Featuring the
S62 engine, the new M5 is the world's most powerful sedan. With 400 hp at 6600 rpm, the M5 distances itself from its nearest competitor by no less than 30 hp. With a monumental 369 lb-ft. of torque at just 3800 rpm, the M5 delivers stunning thrust virtually throughout its wide rpm range.
V-8 Power has not always been M Power. In fact,
back in the 50s BMW produced an
aluminum V-8 engine.
This engine powered
the 502 --
BMW's first post-war automobile -- as well as
the sporty 503 and 507 models.

Early BMW V-8 Models |
The BMW 502
was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1954. The 502's 2.6 liter powerplant was the
world's first light-metal (aluminum), standard production V-8 engine. |
