Joining the current
petrol-engined X5 3.0i, X5 4.4i and soon-to-arrive X5 4.6is, the fourth Australian BMW X5 model will be the most advanced, and one of the most frugal,
diesel-engined 4WD's ever sold in Australia. For many owners, it will represent the perfect vehicle to explore so much more of Australia in style, comfort and safety.
BMW's straight-six 3.0 liter engine
has a turbocharger with variable vane geometry, four valves per cylinder and connecting rods manufactured by BMW's innovative "cracking" process.
The same engine is already featured in the 330d and 530d models.
The engine produces 135kW of power at 4000 rpm and developing
a maximum torque of 410Nm between 2000 rpm-3000 rpm.

| Unlike conventional diesel engines, the BMW 3.0d engine builds up torque almost instantly, giving the driver immediate throttle response. With acceleration from 0-100km/h in 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h, the X5 3.0d matches the road performance of leading petrol-engined 4WDs, yet excels with the low speed response, towing power and long-life benefits of a diesel engine.
The engine achieves a fuel consumption of 9.7 litres/100km on the combined EU cycle.
Featuring the same unitary body and independent suspension as its petrol-engined siblings, the X5 3.0d's permanent four-wheel drive conveys 62 per cent of the engine power to the rear wheels and 38 per cent to the front wheels under normal driving conditions, giving it exceptional on-road handling and safety.
Off the beaten track, a range of advanced and inter-related technologies developed by BMW come into play to make the X5 3.0d a serious 4WD vehicle, capable of exploring remote Outback regions in comfort and safety.
The X5 3.0d has ABS Anti-Lock braking,
DSC III (Dynamic Stability Control),
ASC-X (Automatic Stability Control),
ADB-X (Automatic Differential Brake), HDC (Hill Descent Control) and
CBC (Cornering Brake Control). More

"The X5 3.0d is the perfect product with which to introduce Australian luxury buyers to the many benefits of high technology diesel motoring. The fact that a uniform diesel fuel quality standard has been agreed is a major step in providing the opportunity to benefit from the low emissions, low consumption and other operational benefits which have been an option for European luxury performance enthusiasts for some
time," says BMW Group Australia Managing Director, Uwe Hartmann |
