Central Coast.
California has
some of the most beautiful ocean front in the world, and nowhere is
it more evident than the central coast, stretching from Monterey in
the north to Santa Barbara in the south. The coastal Route 1 hugs
the coast and dramatically displays the California ocean front.

High Sierra.
The Sierra
Nevada mountains feature great skiing, gaming at Reno, and the
splendid mountain lake, Lake Tahoe. Interstate 80 from Sacramento to
Reno will show off the mountains and your driving skills.

Inland Empire.
To the east of
the Los Angeles Basin lies the Inland Empire, where you will find
the Cleveland and San Bernardino National Forests. A great weekend
escape for many urbanites.

Shasta Cascade.
This area hosts the Volcanic
Legacy Scenic Byway, recently designated an All American Road.
The Volcanic Byway stretches through two states and five counties
connecting Crater Lake National Park in Oregon to Lassen Volcanic
National Park, a journey of more than 500 miles. Along the route,
motorists can visit other volcanic highlights of the region
including Mount Shasta, the Medicine Lake Highlands, Lava Beds
National Monument and Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park.

North Coast.
From catfish
derbies to winery tours to dramatic ocean views, the North Coast has
it all. Start your journey in Santa Rosa, just north of San
Francisco, and say hello to Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy in
Peanuts' creator Charles Schultz's hometown.

Deserts.
In the
southeastern corner of California, you'll find Death Valley and the
remaining thread of historic Route 66, once the way west for a
generation of travelers.

Central Valley.
This thin
stretch of California runs from the Tehachapi Mountains and Los
Padres National Forest in the south to Redding in the north.
Interstate 5 and the old Highway 99 slice through the central
valley, the richest agricultural area in America. If you travel I-5,
don't forget to stop at Harris Ranch for a great meal.
