In the Grand Prix of everyday driving, the German Autobahn is the world's top circuit. If BMW is the ultimate driving
machine, then the Autobahn is the ultimate driving experience.
|
 |
A trip to Germany would be incomplete without a trek on the Autobahn. It's like visiting Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower, or London without Big Ben.
On the
Autobahn you'll see the BMW's and other fine road cars at their best,
cruising in the fast lane, enjoying every curve. As beautiful as it is,
there is no time for scenery...unless you're the passenger. |
|
But why is the Autobahn so
special?
- It's roads
without imposed limits on speed, although there are speed
limits in some areas, especially near urban centers. On the Autobahn, the driver and the machine impose the limits.
- It's the
quality of the roads, the construction and the maintenance, and the quality of the
road signs and markers. Thoughtful amenities are
everywhere.
- It's the
condition of the vehicles, where even a broken taillight will sideline a car.
- It's the
cooperation of other drivers, who are well trained and courteous. Drivers seem to be
more aware of the road and other drivers on the Autobahn than in other parts of the world.
