The Premium Sound system option is available for most BMW models, including the BMW M3. The option can be ordered separately or as part of the Premium Package.

The Harmon-Kardon sound system is available with the following features:

• AM/FM with CD player.
• 320-watts of power.
• Digital Stereo with Dolby surround sound.
• 8, 10 or 12 Harmon-Kardon speakers (depending on make and model).
• Some models have a built-in subwoofer.

The speakers include two each of front and rear midrange, tweeter, subwoofer and four dual-coil woofer speakers.

Some owners have reported a problem with the factory Harmon Kardon BMW system. When you increase the bass, the speakers may rattle and distort. To solve this problem, some people like to add an amplifier and subwoofers to their existing system. That way they can allow the factory Harmon Kardon speakers to play mid and high frequency so they don't distort and use the subwoofers to create low frequency bass.
